It crazy to to think that before 1973, there was no such thing as a shelter for abused women in Canada. The fact that a shelter was even built was a controversy – the headlines of the day proved it. The prevalent thought in the 70’s was it’s not my business what goes on next door.
A brave group of women believed that women and children who were enduring abuse at the hands of their partners deserved better. And Interval House was born.
So much has changed over the past 50 years, I believe that together we have altered attitudes and invited more conversation about intimate partner violence.
As we get ready to celebrate our 50th anniversary on April 1, 2023, we are grateful for your steadfast support as you continue to stand beside us and the women we empower
Everyday your support provides life-saving shelter for women and children. You surround them with compassionate staff and counsellors. You give moms the tools they need to build new lives for themselves and their children, including legal aid, counselling, employment, housing and so much more.
You can read more about some of the ways your support has helped us innovate over the years, as well as exciting plans for the future in our most recent newsletter.
You are changing the future by enabling women to break the cycle of violence for themselves, their children, and for future generations. Together we can break the cycle of violence!
