Most spouse killers lack prior record
A 2007 Toronto Star article sheds some context on a family violence study from Statistics Canada. The study, based on a decade of police data, shows that nearly three-quarters of people charged with killing or attempting to kill their spouse have no prior record of spousal abuse. Experts suggest that this is likely because many people who are abused by their spouses aren’t reporting the abuse to police.
