Our Facility

Interval House first undertook a feasibility study to consider the benefits of moving into a new facility in 1997, a process that included an examination of our existing shelter facility and services, a thorough analysis of the needs of women and children we serve and ensuring existing donor support for a campaign.

In the spring of 2001 we officially launched the “Rebuild the Home that Rebuilds Lives” New Shelter Campaign, an ambitious, five-year effort to raise $4.6 million to develop a new facility. With the assistance of our patrons, volunteer advisors and ambassadors – including Campaign Chair, Michael Young, former Global Head of Real Estate for CIBC World Markets and President of Quadrant Capital Partners, and Fred Waks, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Riocan, we successfully met and surpassed our campaign goal by raising $5 million.

Our new 23,000 square foot facility provides quadruple the amount of space from our previous shelter. From floor to ceiling, front door to backyard, the new Interval House shelter has been specifically designed to meet the utmost needs of women and children in crisis. The facility is an ideal space for women and their children to begin rebuilding their lives free from violence. The beauty of the surrounding area, combined with thoughtful interior design, provides the environment they need to succeed in their individual therapy and recovery.

Our new facility has also been equipped with a barrier-free suite that can accommodate a woman with a physical disability, as well as her children. The suite has allowed Interval House to serve a more diverse group of women and their children.

As a result of the successful capital campaign, Interval House has been able to:

  • Increase capacity and ability to serve up to 30% more women and their children every year
  • Provide 21% more services to women and children fleeing abuse
  • Maximize service and partnership efficiencies as Building Economic Self Sufficiency Program and the shelter are brought under one roof
  • Create new partnerships, such as an Apartment Owners’ Housing Project, scholarship fund for abused women, and a career boutique
